Origins of the Brasserie’s Name
Rushton Hall’s Triangular Lodge was built in 1593 by Thomas Tresham to display his Catholic faith. The Triangular Lodge was constructed between 1593 and 1597. The lodges name comes from its design boasting 3 intricately designed sides, symbolising the Holy Trinity. This design is apparent not only in the buildings shape but also in other areas, such as the number of floors and the trefoil windows. On the entrance to the front is the inscription ‘Tres Testimonium Dant’ (‘there are three that give witness’), a quote from St John’s Gospel. Rushton Hall’s Triangular lodge allowed the Tresham family to escape through a priest hole, when Catholics were persecuted for their faith.
