Family-friendly activities in Northamptonshire

With the weather gradually improving and summer seemingly here to stay, we would like to share our favourite things to do. Northamptonshire is a beautiful county regardless of season, but you can make a note of our favourite summer activities to try out for yourself by reading our blog below.

West Lodge Rural Centre

The West Lodge Rural Centre is only 4 miles and a 10-minute drive from our hotel.

There, you and your family can learn more about animals including goats, cattle, pigs, hens, ducks and geese.

It’s a great hands-on experience for children of all ages – there is an outdoor play area and a cuddle corner in which responsible little ones can handle small animals.

Educational, outdoors and filled with animals – it has all the activities you need for a perfect summer day out and we think it is a great way to spend a few hours with your family.

Wicksteed Park

Wicksteed Park is less than 20 minutes away by car and just 7 miles from Rushton Hall.

Boasting 147 acres of parkland and an impressive 30 rides, this is a one-stop place of fun for children of all ages thanks to the playgrounds, lakeside walks and narrow-gauge railway.

All that parkland is perfect for picnics and games – not forgetting that Wicksteed has one of the longest zip wires in the UK.

This is definitely one that thrill-seekers can enjoy and is a great option for families wanting to stay closer to nature and not spend a small fortune at a large theme park.

Northampton and Lamport Railway

Half an hour’s drive will see you arrive at the Northampton and Lamport Railway.

You and your little ones can ride the trains all day or if you prefer, you can enjoy the bookshop, giftshop, Platform 3 buffet or learn all about the history of the heritage railway from the dedicated volunteers.

We think this is a great day out for younger guests who may be into trains – even older children can enjoy riding the locomotives.
