The Gardens

Tresham was a knowledgeable man, particularly with plants and was a horticulturist, paying a good deal of attention to unglamorous subjects such as water supply, drainage and maintenance.

Thomas Mawson was a Lancashire man born in 1861, and it was he who made plans for the Gardens here at Rushton. He was renowned for his designs which contained blends of architecture and planting. Mawson later worked on National Parks and Town planning, and in 1929 became the president of the Institute of Landscaped Architects. Unfortunately, the plans drawn never went ahead.
